If your vehicle is due an MOT in the next month, preparing your car for it is highly recommended. Checking over your vehicle does not require knowledge or skills at a mechanic level, just at a basic level.

Before taking the car in, you should check over the lights, checking all of them, including side lights, headlights, full beam, hazard lights (this includes your indicator lights), back lights, reverse and break lights. Getting someone to check each lights functioning while you control them is a recommended time saver.

Check your cars oil and water levels- Whilst this should be carried out regularly as standard, making sure these levels are within the safe limits is essential. Also check your window washer water, and blade function too.

All of these simple checks shouldn’t just be done before an MOT but as part of your regular vehicle maintenance. Checking all of these before a MOT definitely has its advantages and will help improve your MOT outcome, unless there are further mechanical faults to be dealt with.
