Unfortunately cars can break down right out of the blue, and though this is less likely today with modern cars it doesn’t happen. If you find yourself breaking down on a dual carriageway or a motorway, there are three things you must not forget to do.

Firstly pull over to the left safely. This means putting your hazard lights on to show something is wrong, and then slowing down to a sensible speed and greeting in as far to the left as you can. You should also put your sidelights on for extra safety.

Exit your car safely and stand a fair distance away from the road. You should then call for a breakdown emergency provider and tell them your exact location.

One final thing you must not forget to do is panic. The more you panic the worse your decision making will be. Remember everyone breaks down and it’s mainly about staying calm and using your common sense. The mechanic will then deal with it from there and you could have your car back working hours later.
